The Department of Science and Technology–X (DOST-X), through the Regional Research Funding (RRF) Program of DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), released P731,924.00 to Central Mindanao University (CMU) to implement the research project that aims to assess the effectiveness of the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) in Valencia City, Bukidnon.
The study will explore the experiences of the drug responders and stakeholders while engaged in the rehabilitation program. The results of the study are highly significant to the implementation of the Anti-Drug Campaign in Valencia City and its barangays. The City Social Welfare & Development Office (CSWDO), City Health Office (CHO), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), drug rehabilitation institutions, and health professionals may benefit from this research as it could be used as basis for the formulation or enhancement of policies relevant to drug prevention, control, and rehabilitation.
Valencia City reports more than 5,800 listed drug users. More than 2,600 responders already availed of the CBRP in the city. In order to ensure adherence to the universal ethical principles for the protection and promotion of dignity of the research participants, the research team obtained Research Ethics Clearance from the National Ethics Committee (NEC).
During the Inception Meeting and Ceremonial Check Turnover on April 11, 2022, the Dean of the College of Arts and Science in CMU Dr. Leo G. Labrador signified the institution’s commitment of support in carrying out the research project.
Project Leader Dr. Eva Mendoza of the College of Arts and Sciences in CMU participated in the series of research proposal writing training conducted by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD).
Through NorMinCoHRD, junior researchers from Region 10 were mentored to generate research proposals fit for DOST funding. The RRF Program of DOST-PCHRD is a way to encourage beginning researchers to be actively involved in health research without having to compete with more experienced researchers. Under the RRF Program, research projects may be funded up to One Million Pesos.
