With the goal of reaching a wider audience in the dissemination of health research results in Twitter and Facebook, the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology organized the Visualize Health Research 2.0, A Visual Abstract Contest.

Launched during the Kick Off event of the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Council last 17 January 2022, the contest is open to all creative Filipinos residing in the Philippines except to PCHRD employees and their immediate family members, and PCHRD’s project team members. Joining the contest is FREE of charge.
Three individuals have an opportunity to win a cash prize amounting to P10,000, P6,000, and P3,000.

Here’s the contest guidelines:

Eligibility

• The contest is open to all creative Filipinos residing in the Philippines.
• Employees of PCHRD and members of their immediate family, and project team members are not eligible to join the contest.

Mechanics

• The contestant must create a visual abstract on one (1) of the following published research studies of the Council (2019-2021):

1. Development of a mobile game to influence behavior determinants of HIV service uptake among key populations in the Philippines: User-centered design process.
2. Is the Philippines ready for HIV self-testing?
3. Development and Evaluation of a Culturally Sensitive Food Frequency Questionnaire for the Assessment of Prebiotic and Probiotic Intake of Urban-living, Low-to-medium-income Women.
4. Prevalence and Molecular Characteristics of MRSA Nasal Carriage Among Hospital Care Workers in a Tertiary Hospital in the Philippines.
5. Effect of heavy metals on ventricular repolarization and depolarization in the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcers’ health study
6. MicroRNA‑92a promotes cell proliferation, migration and survival by directly targeting the tumor suppressor gene NF2 in colorectal and lung cancer cells. 
7. Non-Redundant and Overlapping Oncogenic Readouts of Non-Canonical and Novel Colorectal Cancer KRAS and NRAS Mutants. 
8. Identification and validation of mRNA 3’untranslated regions of DNMT3B and TET3 as novel competing endogenous RNAs of the tumor suppressor PTEN.
9. Mutation-Associated Phenotypic Heterogeneity in Novel and Canonical PIK3CA Helical and Kinase Domain Mutants 
10. NRAS mutant E132K identified in young-onset sporadic colorectal cancer and the canonical mutants G12D and Q61K affect distinct oncogenic phenotypes
11. High rates of tenofovir failure in a CFR01 AE-predominant HIV epidemic in the Philippines
12. Factors influencing health-seeking behavior among overseas Filipino workers.
13. Patient-cost survey for tuberculosis in the context of patient-pathway modelling.

• Submission of visual abstract poster entries will be via email (ricud-comm@pchrd.dost.gov.ph) with the following subject format: Visual Abstract_Last Name) (ex. Visual Abstract_Dela Cruz). Deadline of submission of entries is on 17 February 2022.

• Winners will be announced during the 40th PCHRD Anniversary Main Event on 17 March 2022.

Visual Abstract Contest Piece

• A visual abstract is a visual summary of the information contained within a research abstract. Similar to the actual text abstract of a research article, it is meant to communicate the key findings of the article in a shorter format. You may use this as reference in creating a visual abstract.
• Visual abstract specifications:
  • Dimension: 1080px X 1350px
  • Resolution: 300ppi
  • Orientation: Portrait
  • Must contain the title and author/s of the chosen research study and DOST PCHRD logo and official 40th Anniversary logo (logos here).
  • Maximum file size of 5 MB in JPEG format.

Criteria for Judging

• Clarity of message – 35%
• Correctness and accuracy of translation – 35%
• Relevant creativity and originality – 20%
• Visual Impact – 10 %

Reminders

• Strictly one entry per participant only.
• The contest piece submitted shall be created specifically for this Contest and has not been used commercially.

• The participant warrants and represents that they own all rights to the Entry, their Entry is the original work of the participant, does not contain any third-party designs, does not infringe any third party’s rights, complies with all laws and regulations, and does not contain defamatory statements, or invade privacy, publicity or other rights of any third party. Entries containing prohibited or inappropriate content will be disqualified, as determined by the Council in its sole discretion.
• After the contest, submitted visual abstract entries will become property of the Council.
• A special prize will be given to the People’s Choice Award that will be conducted through PCHRD social media accounts.
